Facebook Gives Back

With as crazy as the world seems sometimes, it's refreshing to see organizations and platforms putting in effort to give back. In just the last few months we've experienced unsurmountable humanitarian and natural disaster losses as a nation in Las Vegas, Houston, and Florida- only to name a few. This week I ran across an article that explained how Facebook has recently added a crisis donations feature which allows users to donate to GlobalGiving. GlobalGiving is an organization which gives to various nonprofits that give to disaster relief etc. Seeing platforms utilize technology to give back is extremely admirable and is a prime demonstration of  CSR in action. Facebook recently also rolled out a feature that allows people to mark themselves as "safe" when in an area that is within distance of any of city or town under a crisis or emergency situation. Facebook's social good manager, Asha Sharma, describes the goals of Facebook's programs saying, "Our goal at Facebook is to create tools that make it easier for people to help their community and the communities they care about recover from a crisis."
These kind of moves by key player companies like Facebook, are the small plays that send massive imitation into motion. It is up to the people and platforms with the largest voices to give channels consumers to give back and interact and feel connected to one another. Good job Facebook, I personally think this is an awesome addition to their platform.
